Foreword A career started in graphics, led to publishing and advertising. From this base, I have worked 20 years in Marketing and Sales (either as a consultant or employee) for numerous companies and some governments, mainly in technical services and enterprise software - Sales and channel development experience covers most key centers in the US and Canada, and some markets in Latin America, Europe and Asia. My background includes hands-on experience in graphics, publishing, television, advertising, multimedia, e-commerce, training, technical services, and enterprise software. However, the prevailing mission has been (and remains) how to impact the bottom line using the strategies and tools of Marketing and Sales. "These early experiences shaped my thinking about how business could be impacted by words and images - most importantly, it showed the control one can exert on the destiny of an enterprise." Starting out - tools go in the toolbox Early on, I had to learn how to assess a business and decide on at least one strategy to impact sales through promotion. My tasks in the publishing industry revolved around launching new publications and creating publicity for (eventually hundreds) of key accounts. This provided many successes and failures. Mostly, I learned - eventually winning national and international awards for marketing, advertising, and publication design. Later, in my own marketing and communications firm, we created sales and training video productions, commercials, print materials, and trade show displays. Clients included corporations, retail clients, governments and advertising agencies. Notable clients included: Esso Petroleum, Petro-Canada, Dominion Bridge, McKim Advertising, Royal Canadian Mint, Bank of Montreal, Oxford Development, and Burson-Marstellar (the largest PR firm in the world).
